Max gets excited about pointing out all the animals when we go for walks! He can't say their names, but he can make their sounds. We see dogs, horses, and cows. (He also makes the monkey sound because he loves it, even though there are no monkeys on our street!)
He sees lots of horses, so it doesn't do any good to tell him the horse says, "Neigh." He almost never hears a horse make a real neighing sound, but he does hear snorting and sputtering. So that, to Max, is what the horsey says.
Although he cannot talk, Max is very good at conveying a point. Here he is, indicating that he'd like to into Grandma and Buddy's house.
He hollers until they hear, but if you listen closely you can also hear his quiet, polite greeting, "Hi," as he walks in the door!
Max has a great deal of concern about ants. He thinks that anything from a little stick to a June bug just might be an ant. The other day there was a fly buzzing around him while he sat in his high chair, and he was upset and crying, "Ant, ant, ant!" (The kid has been bitten before!)
If he feels something on his feet he'll run up to you and thrust his feet at you for inspection, "Ant, ant, ant!" It's usually just dirt on his feet, but he's not taking any chances!

I think the giant bruise and scratch on Nathan's forehead seems more painful to Brian than Nathan himself.
