Louisiana road trip! Part 2.

On day one we checked into this B&B in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana!

Here's a look at our cabin from the rock road (which itself will add a story to our vacation later on).

Our cottage was called the "Evangeline."

Named after the famous poem by Longfellow about an Acadian woman who gets separated from her fiance during Le Grand Derangement when the people were kicked out of Canada.  She loved him so much that she never married another.  The two both wound up in the Louisiana settlement but never saw each other, although so many times they were so near.  Finally when they were old, she was tending to the sick during an epidemic and found him, and he died in her arms.  Evangeline's great love's name was Gabriel ...

Gabe:  "Why does the character with my name always have to die?"

The cabin was cute and cozy too.

Master bedroom where Dan and Gabe slept.

The kids loved the ducks!  We had to go buy duck bread!

Back of cabin.

View of back of cabin from our pier over the lake.

Max, touching the surface of the water.

The old Cajun houses used to have cisterns for collecting rain water, since the water from the swamp was not really potable.

I wanted to go on a boat ride!  So I dragged everyone off to the boats.

Putting on life jackets, just in case!

Gabe was pretty nervous about getting in ...

... and, as it turns out, he had reason to be.  We rowed to the middle of the lake and discovered that our boat was filling up with water.  We made it back in plenty of time though!  (Behind me you can see that the back of the boat was full of water!)

It was difficult to pull a water-filled boat up on the shore!  (I thought Gabe might be forever scarred from this experience, but he did get into the boat on the swamp tour the next day!)

Relaxing on the back porch swing.

About to head in for the night, at dusk.

Seconds later, Max was covered in ant bites all the way up his right arm to his neck!

Watching Dragon Ball Z and The Three Stooges to round out our night.

Gabe always reads a little before bed!

Tomorrow I'll tell the story of our swamp tour.

Goodnight!
