The other day I was talking to Dan about eating more whole grains and starches and cutting back on seeds and oils. He said, "I hope you know, I have to take everything you say about diet with a grain of salt. You're always changing your mind."
He said, "You are the same way about nutrition that I was about religion." And I realized, He's right. I am always reading books, searching for the best diet, and changing my mindset.
Certain things don't change, though. Vegetables are always good for you, and I've been on the vegetarian/vegan kick for six months now. I'm convinced that restricting meat consumption, if not eliminating it, makes for the healthiest diet. If I were to add some animal foods back to my diet, I would choose fish caught in safe waters (if there are any), and eggs. I think that milk is the worst, but I can't seem to convince my family ...
For example, here's Gabe today, gulping down cheese at Grandma and Buddy's!
Today we took a family trip to Whole Foods.
I hope to get Max on a healthy diet while he is still impressionable. But there is candy and junk food everywhere, and he knows how to spot it and beg for it, even at one year old!
Okay, here are some leftover pics from New Year's Eve.
Eating black-eyed peas and cabbage. (Healthy!)
Aunt Amy and Granny.
Max and Gramps, suffering from camera distortion.
With nutrition and religion always up for debate and discussion, let's hope we aren't messing up our poor kiddos too much!
